King James Version with Web Encyclopedia Links: 1Samuel 28; 1Samuel 29; 1Samuel 301Samuel 31

In 1Samuel 28, Saul wanted to inquire of the Lord concerning the Philistines who were assembled to fight him. The Lord did not answer him by dreams, or Urim or the prophets. Saul got very desperate and got his servants to get him in touch with the Witch of Endor. This was against the law of God (Leviticus 19.26, 31; 20.6-8; Deuteronomy18-9-14). He saw this vision of Samuel,. who told him that he would die in battle. Witches and sorcerers

In 1Samuel 29 King Achish of the Philsitines decide to send David back to Ziklag. The commanders of the Philstines did not trust the David because of his expolits in killing many Philstines in his military campaign as well as Goliath. David had fled to the Philistines in 1Samuel 27 and stayed with them, pretending to be insane.

In 1Samuel 30, when David and his men had reached Ziklag. The Amakelites had raided Ziklag and had kidnapped the women and children of David and his men. David and his men destroyed the Amakelites and rescued them.

In 1Samuel 31, there was a battle between the Philistines and the Israelites, and things got bad for Saul, he lost three sons, Jonathan, Abinadab and Malki-Shua. They had aslo wounded Saul critically. Saul told his armor-bearer to kill him but he was afraid. Saul took his own sword and kill himself, so did the armor-bearer. Thus ended the life of Saul, a man with promise and whose life ended in tragedy. The Life and Death of King Saul
